It was a rare event to see an umbrella of northern lights in Eastern Washington. Normally Eastern Washington might see a little bit of lights at the horizon, but on the night of May 10th the Northern lights surrounded us on all sides. You could see the colors although they were faint, but the camera picked up the colors vividly. We went to Fishtrap to the local Astronomy Club site. A lot of people showed up, and many didn’t really know what they were looking for, and many people left. Wish they would know to turn off their headlights as they kept blinding us with bright headlights coming and going. Still was able to get a few shots of the lights. The funny thing was this time we didn’t need a clear view of the horizon, because the lights illuminated the sky from a center point high in the sky, and the lights came down in a 360 view of lighs. It was beautiful. These shots were 30 second photos. In retrospect I should have used a larger aperature and shortened the time span. Never took photos of the Northern Lights before, so really wasn’t sure how to go about it.
